The Outerbridge crossing connects Staten Island, New York with Perth Amboy, New Jersey. It is a cantilever bridge with 2100’ of truss span and a total length of 8800’ with height of 143’. The bridge has total of 7 lanes and is maintained by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ).

JPCL Engineering was retained to perform the Biennial Inspection of the Marine Terminal Bridge, Corbin St Ramp and Outer Bridge Crossings for the year  2017 as an Assistant Team Leader. Based on the As-Inspected condition, the bridges were rated using the Load and Resistance Factor (LRFR) method,

Load Factor Rating (LFR) and ASR (Allowable Stress Rating) methods in accordance with the AASHTO Bridge Evaluation Manual and NJDOT Highway Bridge Load Rating Specifications.

Finite Element Analysis of complex composite bridge sections was done in STAAD Pro v8i and SAP2000 based on As-Inspected and As-Designed cases to specify the load rating of bridge spans.
