Ellison Avenue Bridge Replacement Project, Westbury, NY
Scope of Work
QA/QC at Precast Plant │Post Tensioning Observations
The Ellison Avenue bridge is a 115-year-old structure with formerly deteriorated condition and reduced weight restrictions. The Ellison Avenue Design-Build Project included the replacement of the multi-span bridge over the LIRR Main Line along with the construction of a new roadway and accompanying sidewalks, curbs, fencing and paving in Westbury, NY. These investments provide long term bridge and train safety. The project was situated in a residential neighborhood, limiting site access and linearizing construction progress.
JPCL was retained to perform QA/QC services during the production of the precast/prestressed reinforced concrete components consisting of beams and slabs for the single span bridge. JPCL performed pre-pour and post-pour inspections of formwork, rebar, and concrete, and witnessed concrete testing during fabrication and witnessed pre-stressed cables de-tensioning. JPCL ensured proper curing practices were followed and performed lifting calculations for precast members prior to their safe loading and shipping to the project site.
